Matt Youngstrand
Family & Children’s Pastor

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Plymouth, Minnesota, a suburb just west of the Twin Cities.

How and when were you called into ministry?

I trace my call to ministry back to my middle school years. I had some amazing youth pastors and small group leaders that believed in me and gave me opportunities to serve and lead in ministry. When I was in high school it finally clicked that ministry could be a vocation so I went to Bethel University and studied Youth Ministry and Biblical and Theological Studies. I’m grateful I get to work with kids, students and families each day!

What’s your passion in ministry?

It’s my passion to introduce kids and students to the full life offered in following Jesus. I’m also passionate about helping parents navigate the years between birth and graduating high school. When the church and families work together to point kids and students towards Jesus we change our communities and our world!

Favorite Bible verse and why?

It’s tough to pick one but I love John 10:10 because it reminds us that there is an enemy with a game plan and that God’s desire for us to have and experience full life. So often we are willing to settle for a good or easy life, but life in Christ offers us so much more!

Spare time activities you enjoy?

I love spending time with my wife and daughter, playing and watching baseball, hunting, fishing, biking and being outdoors.

Favorite place you’ve visited?

One of my favorite places outside of the US is Bangkok, Thailand. I’ve spent a couple months there teaching english and fell in love with Thai people and culture.

Favorite food?

I love a good burger and Thai food. I’m not picky, though, I’m pretty happy eating anything on my plate.

Something most people don’t know about me?

I am a pretty big nerd when it comes to technology and I love Apple products.

Favorite book other than the Bible?

I’m always encouraged and challenged by Andy Stanley and Francis Chan. Most recently I’d have to say Deep and Wide by Andy Stanley and Love Does by Bob Goff. Also getting back into C.S. Lewis. Couldn’t pick just one!
